Ed O'Neill

“I don’t want too much pressure (on ‘Modern Family’), because you come out with a show that now they’re saying is hot, and there’s a lot of heat on it. It’s almost as bad as coming out with one that they don’t like. But we’ll see what happens. I’ll show up to work…and we’ll see what we come up with.” … Ed O’Neill

It looks like Ed O’Neill can finally emerge from the shadow of Al Bundy. Since 1987, Ed O’Neill has not been able to shake the legacy of the misanthropic women’s shoe salesman with a miserable life and a family that didn’t let him forget it. For 10 seasons, he played Al with a self-deprecating manner that fans loved so much, that many forgot that there was an Ed O’Neill. He was always “Al Bundy”. But that’s all changed. He’s back with a new comedy series and a new family. On “Modern Family” we see Ed dealing with the pitfalls of having a gorgeous young wife that most people think he’s the “grandfather to” not the “lover of”. He has issues with his family, and his character is not thrilled to be a stepfather at this point in his life. But he makes the best of it, and in doing so, he treating us to some huge laughs. The show is a hit for ABC and it’s sure to vault Ed back into the limelight – this time as himself. Thanks for the memories, Al but stand aside, it’s Ed O’Neill on The Red Carpet.
