The Yahoo “Buzz” reports a man picnicking on a beach in Kauai spotted a fish swimming in an odd way. So he waded into the water and caught it, by hand, and threw it into his cooler. It was only later that the fisherman noticed that the reef fish came with a bonus: The sea creature had coughed up a gold wristwatch, still ticking and making good time, according to the AP. News of the find caused searches on “nenue” to surge.
Like one of those 3-D geometric posters, we can’t help staring at Nora Tobin’s FRS Energy Drink Ad. Thahat ripped stomach and cute profile has vaulted the young volleyball player in the limelight in a major way. One has to wonder is it Nora Tobin being featured in an FRS Energy Drink Ad, or is FRS Energy Drink being featured in a Nora Tobin picture?
The season finale of Lost raises the ante on Lost theories … so here’s one from The Red Carpet:
Jacob and his buddy (we’ll call him Buddy) are embroiled in long-running battle over the redemptive capacity of Man. Buddy believes that Man cannot be redeemed. Jacob feels the opposite – people can choose to be good, and to prove his point, he has been bringing people to the island to see if they can let go of their past pains and flaws and learn to co-exist in peace. But as Buddy indicated, they come, they fight, they destroy and it ends. Jacob starts over, recruiting new candidates. He hand-picked each of the Oceanic survivors. Thus far, this group has not been able to dispel Buddy’s theory, but they are making progress. Obviously, the final year will test the survivors even more to see if they can overcome their past sins and find lasting peace.
Well, it;s just a theory.
The Beginning starts with a bang-up fight, get us into the story quickly and introduces us to the characters. The Middle is loaded with action and lines that will appease the Star Trek faithful. The appearace of Leonard Nimoy is a nice touch. Karl Urban (Dr. McCoy and Simon Pegg (Scott) steal some scenes with their near identical portrayals of their characters by the original Star Trek cast. The End is great, satisfying and is a credit to the Star Trek history. The Story is worthy of a Star Trek thriller, but what stands out most is the way the writers were able to find a way to re-write the history of the characters (and their future) while maintaining the history of the original Star Trek series and movies. Another nice piece of work. The most Memorable Moment would have to be the Uhura - Spock connection. We did not see that coming. The Line that we might repeat is “Are you our of your Vulcan mind?” It was great 40 years ago … and is still good today. The Award that this movie might compete in - Special Effects. The Bottom Line – Old and new fans will enjoy this movie, as well as anyone who just likes watching young, atheletic, good looking people leading a fight to save the universe.
It was the single-most defining event in his career. It has been the subject of much debate, talked about for decades. Now finally, we have the opportunity to learn the mystery that has baffled many for more than 40 years - how James T. Kirk beat the Kobiashi Maru - the “no-win’ scenario. We’ll finally see how Kirk rigged the game and changed the odds in favor … that is if J.J. Abrams decides to reveal this piece of Star Trek history to us. Please, J.J., don’t let us down!
The Beginning is nothing spectacular, but it does establish the main characters well. The Middle is filled with lots of laughs. Jason Rudd, Rashida Jones and Jason Segal create likeable, fun characters. The End adds a twist to the typical romantic comedy ending. The Story is original and identifiable to many couples trying to balance a relationship with friendships. The most Memorable Moment is during the poker party when after having too much to drink, Jason Rudd’s character throws-up hard and directly into the face of Jon Favreai/ The Line that we might repeat is “Slapping the bass” The Award that this movie might compete in - “Buddy Movie of the Year”. The Bottom Line – It’s a better movie than the marketing campaign makes it out to be. You’ll laugh, be entertained and perhaps you’ll see your friends in a new light.
The Beginning is suspenseful and sets a great tone. The Middle adds to the suspense and has keeps you guessing. The End gets caught up in too many twists. The Story is okay, but the final twist left us unsatified. The most Memorable Moment is recognizing the girl in the film from “The Wedding Crashers”. The Line that we might repeat is … there are no memorable lines. The Award that this movie might compete in - none. The Bottom Line – Russel Crowe is great to watch, as always and the story has enough suspense to keep you in your seat.
